This is what we'll be making:

This tutorial was written in PSP 9 but can be done  in earlier versions

Please do not claim my tutorials as your own. Feel free to link to them but please no hot-linking and no scripting. Feel free to send through your group but please send as a link, do not email my tutorials.

For this tutorial you will need:

An anchor, ship background
and a sailor girl.
If you'd like to use my images
you may download them HERE

***IMPORTANT***

 If you download my supplies
 the Poser Sailor Girl copyright
belongs solely to me. She is my creation,
and the filename must stay the same
She may not be redistributed or sold
or used in any way to make money.
Please do not take the credit for her.
She is my gift to you, but she belongs to
me, me, me!

Thank you

This tutorial was inspired by a vintage poster I saw
that had a pin up girl on it. I chose to use one of
my Poser dolls, but this would look nice
with a vintage sailor girl as well.

Using different images and tubes, this tutorial would
also translate nicely to other military branches.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let's create!
1. Open up the ship vector or whatever image you're using for
the background
2. Go to Adjust/Brightness Contrast and use these or similar settings:
Brightness 60 Contrast 0
3. Add a new Raster layer & drag it to the bottom. Fill this layer with white.
Now activate your ship layer & lower the opacity somewhere between 55-60:
Now create a new Raster layer on top of the ship and flood fill it with #778AAA
or a muted, grayed down version of your main color.
Lower the opacity of this layer to around 60.
The purpose of all of this is to take a high color, contrast-y image
 and mute it so that is doesn't "fight" with our main subject,
the little sailor girl.
4. Open your anchor image, Copy, Paste as a New Layer & resize it 85% making sure resize all layers is UNchecked
5. Go to Image/Rotate/Free Rotate and use these settings:
6. Adjust/Sharpness/Unsharp Mask with these settings:
7. With your anchor layer active go to Adjust Hue and Saturation/Colorize
with these settings:
Then go to Adjust Brightness and Contrast/Brightness-Contrast and enter
a Brightness setting of 100 and Contrast 10. This will lighten your anchor
to a silvery white.
8. Right click on your anchor layer and Duplicate then Image/Mirror and
position them to your liking. I did mine like this:
9.Add a drop shadow to each anchor with these settings:
Your drop shadow color may vary depending on
the colors in your image.
Hide all of your layers but the anchors,
then right click on one of the anchor layers
and Merge/Visible. Unhide all layers and drop
the opacity on the anchors layer
to around 78. Then you can merge all your
layers and our back ground is finished.
10. Now open your sailor girl and Copy and Paste as a new layer
onto your background.
Add the first drop shadow with these settings:
(the same as the previous step)
The second shadow with these:
*Note: I used the same color as the shadow on the anchor
11. Merge All layers Flatten. Crop the image close.
Add a border of 4 in red.
Add a second border of 25 in a color that looks nice with your image.
Finally add a border of 2 in black.
12. Set your Background color to your red and choose a retro looking font, (mine is Kismet Normal)
create as vector and type out "Ahoy!"
Using the grab handle turn your text on an
angle, size and position. Right click on the vector layer
and convert to raster.
I am not using a drop shadow on the text as this is
supposed to be a poster and
therefore appear flat rather than 3 dimensional.
13. Finally choose another font and set your Background to black
and make the Foreground your red. Create as vector with a stroke of 0.5
and type your name, positioning where you like.
Right click, convert to raster,
merge all, resize and save!
How simple was that?!
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial
